Bristle Brick Mold: Technical Challenges and Manufacturing Process
Technical Challenges:
- Complex Geometry & Undercuts:
- Bristle bricks have intricate designs with multiple undercuts and fine bristle-like structures, making mold design and ejection challenging. Special mechanisms like lifters, sliders, or collapsible cores may be required.
- Precision and Tolerance Control:
- The fine bristle structures need high precision in mold machining to ensure uniformity and prevent defects like warping or deformation. CNC machining and EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) are commonly used.
- Material Selection and Flow Control:
- The plastic material (typically PP, ABS, or soft TPE for flexibility) must have excellent flowability to fill all the small cavities without short shots or air traps. Proper gating and venting are crucial.
- Cooling System Optimization:
- Due to the fine details, uniform cooling is essential to prevent shrinkage or warping. Conformal cooling channels, designed using 3D-printed mold inserts, can help improve efficiency.
- Ejection and Demolding:
- Since the bristles are delicate, standard ejector pins may damage them. Soft ejector mechanisms, air-assisted ejection, or silicone pads on ejector pins are often used.
Manufacturing Process:
- Mold Design & Engineering:
- 3D modeling and simulation (Moldflow analysis) to optimize gate positioning and material flow.
- Inclusion of sliders, lifters, or multi-part cores for undercuts.
- Mold Fabrication:
- High-precision CNC milling and EDM for fine cavity details.
- Hardened steel (H13, S136) for durability due to high cavity count and production volume.
- Surface treatment (polishing or texturing) for better release properties.
- Injection Molding Process:
- Material selection based on flexibility and durability.
- Optimized molding parameters (pressure, temperature, injection speed).
- Multi-stage injection to ensure complete cavity filling.
- Post-Processing & Quality Control:
- Dimensional inspection using CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine).
- Surface finishing to remove flash or imperfections.
- Strength and flexibility tests on bristle structures.
This process ensures high-quality Bristle Brick production with durability and precision, minimizing defects and improving efficiency. Contact NeedMold,Email us: manager@needmold.com
